EnergoFront on the Volga
7 August 2018
At the Volzhskaya HPP, the largest hydroelectric power station in Europe, the reconstruction of the wet pumping station has begun, in which EnergoFront specialists are taking part. Due to the risk of flooding of the pumping station equipment, the main task of the reconstruction is to replace four outdated pumping units of the 600V-1.6/100 type, which are not capable of operating when the station is flooded, with pumping units that operate in both dry and flooded conditions. At the same time, an automatic control system for the pumping station is being introduced, and each pumping unit will be equipped with a soft starter.
The EnergoFront company, having worked through several options for the layout of a pumping station with various pumping units, proposed for consideration by the General Contractor and the HPP a layout option with four Grundfos submersible centrifugal pumping units brand KSN4.100.600.4500.8.M with electric motors 450 kW, 10 kV, 735 rpm, IP68. Due to the internal water cooling system of the electric motor, these pumping units are able to operate for a long time, both during dry installation and during flooding. The use of this equipment will make it possible to preserve the existing scheme for the intake and removal of water from the waste, as well as the system for de-airing the spiral pump casings, significantly simplifying and reducing the cost of reconstruction.
Opinion of the Project Manager of EnergoFront LLC Alexey Shurchalin: “In July 2018, the proposal of EnergoFront LLC was accepted by the HPP and the General Contractor for implementation. Due to the critical importance of the pumping station, a schedule was drawn up for the gradual replacement of all four pumping units. At the moment, the first pumping unit has been put into production. Our team is faced with the task of delivering equipment strictly on schedule and participating in its subsequent installation and commissioning, for which all stages of production at the plant will be monitored by our specialists.”
With wishes for grandiose projects,
