EnergoFront conquers the Arctic

Shipbuilding is one of the largest branches of Russian mechanical engineering. Over the past year, about 170 ships were delivered at domestic shipyards, of which 66 were civilian and 102 were military. Over 2,000 enterprises from various industries were involved in the construction and further maintenance of the ships. This sector of the economy has significant scientific and technical potential that influences the development of technologies in related industries.
In mid-2016, the lead nuclear icebreaker was launched «Arctic”. The length of the universal nuclear icebreaker (project 22220) is 173.3 meters, width – 34 meters, displacement – 33.5 thousand tons, crew – 75 people. It guides ships through arctic conditions, breaking through ice up to three meters thick along the way.
LLC «EnergoFront continues to develop the shipbuilding direction of the company. At the beginning of April, a contract was signed for the supply of an electric drive solution for boiler feed pumps for the lead model of the icebreaker «Arktika” – the most powerful and largest icebreaker in the world. In the near future, an agreement will also be concluded for the supply of electric drive solutions for circulation and boiler feed pumps of 2 and 3 serial icebreakers. As part of this project, EnergoFront will supply 8 motors with VFD (power 290 kW, 600 rpm, 380V) for circulation units and 8 motors with VFD (power 800 kW, 3000 rpm, 690V) for power supply units. All electric drive solutions will be used as part of the company’s pumping units «GMS Livgidromash.
Opinion of the LLC project manager «EnergoFront” by Sergei Donskov:
«A previous equipment supplier was having difficulty with the increased power consumption of their electric drive system. By properly selecting an electric drive, we will be able to eliminate this problem on production icebreakers. In general, I would like to note that this is a very large-scale and important project for the company. Shipbuilding in Russia is gaining momentum every year, and EnergoFront has already established itself as a reliable supplier of drive solutions for this industry.”
