EnergoFront does not leave you in trouble
8 June 2015
In December 2012, our news published information about the supply of equipment for CJSC Mikheevsky GOK, part of the Russian Copper Company group. Since then, specialists from the EnergoFront service department have carried out “designer supervision” of the operation of the supplied equipment. In mid-2014, we were faced with an unexpected and difficult to explain problem – the electrochemical process of erosion of copper-graphite brushes and other elements of the brush-contact assembly of electric motors with a wound rotor, on the basis of which the motor drive of the main ore conveyor of the plant was built. The problem was further complicated by the inconsistency of this process, which created enormous difficulties in carrying out any measurements and diagnostics. As a result of this inexplicable erosion, the brushes lost mobility in the brush holders, which led to uneven distribution of rotor current, burning of the contact point with the rings and, as a result, constant unscheduled shutdowns of the conveyor, high maintenance costs, emergency situations, etc…
It took us more than six months to understand the true causes of the malfunction. Many activities were carried out, many of the involved specialists had already given up, but the engineers of JSC EnergoFront did not give up, and in February 2015, after lengthy calculations, discussions, consultations, we took a risk and applied an original solution – the transition to a fundamentally new type of KPNG brushes, recently developed and currently being introduced into mass production by one of the electrical plants in Samara, which is our partner.
The management of the mining and processing plant appreciated our efforts by sending a letter of gratitude to EnergoFront CJSC and our partner Tyazhmash OJSC.
