Acceptance tests of equipment for the icebreaker “Sibir” have been completed

29 March 2018

One of the most significant events of recent years from the point of view of the development of the Russian Arctic took place at the end of 2017 in St. Petersburg – the launching of the hull of the first serial universal nuclear icebreaker “Sibir” of project 22220. At the moment, the completion of the icebreaker is ongoing at the Baltic Shipyard, in which specialists from the EnergoFront company are also taking part.

In particular, at the production site of Rustmash LLC (Triol Corporation), acceptance tests of frequency converters and transformers intended for delivery to the icebreaker as part of electric boiler feed pump units PEMA 250-80 were carried out. The tests were carried out under the supervision of an acceptance committee, which included authorized specialists from FSUE Atomflot, JSC HMS Livgidromash (a branch of JSC HMS Livgidromash in Moscow) and LLC EnergoFront.

It is worth noting that there, at the Baltic Shipyard, the lead nuclear icebreaker of Project 22220 “Arktika” is being completed, the equipment for which was also supplied by specialists from EnergoFront LLC.

Opinion of the head of the sales department for OEM clients of EnergoFront LLC, Alexey Ivanov: “Such close attention from the customer’s representatives to the project and to all current production issues, including the issue of equipment acceptance, is due to great responsibility, since these particular sets of equipment will be responsible for supplying feedwater to the steam turbine installation of the nuclear icebreaker. The universal nuclear icebreakers of Project 22220 will become the largest and most powerful in the world. They are needed to ensure Russian leadership in the Arctic. They will be able to conduct convoys of ships in Arctic conditions, breaking through ice up to 3 meters thick. We are proud that through our work we make a great contribution to the success of not only our company, but also the entire country.”

With wishes for powerful projects,
