Sea trials of the lead nuclear icebreaker of Project 22220 have been successfully completed

17 February 2020

According to the press service of the Baltic Shipyard, during the tests, a program was successfully developed to test the vessel’s performance while using backup diesel generators, during which the vessel’s independent speed of 6 knots was achieved, and communications, navigation, and the operation of the vessel’s household and engineering systems were also tested.

At the beginning of 2020, specialists from the EnergoFront service department are preparing to carry out commissioning work on previously supplied equipment to complete the PEMA 250-80 electric pump units, which are designed to supply feed water to the steam generators of the steam turbine installation of the nuclear icebreaker of project 22220 “Arktika”, these are 800 kW asynchronous electric motors, frequency converters AT24-M80-690-R00000, transformer cabinets TRSD-1000-10.5/0.69/0.69/0.38, local control panels AT.687442.241 The following work will be carried out: checking the external connection diagram, adjusting settings and adapting to the technological process, checking protection operations in emergency situations, long-term load tests, checking all operating modes, etc.

Our Company provided the supply of equipment for all vessels of this project; it successfully passed all tests and demonstrated full compliance with the parameters of the technical specifications.

The second stage of sea trials of the Arktika, within which it is planned to use the vessel’s reactor installation with a planned speed of 20 knots, is expected at the end of February 2020.

The main tasks of these icebreakers are to service the Northern Sea Route and conduct various expeditions to the Arctic.
