Carrying out design work to replace the PE-500-180 pump with PE-250-180 at the Perm CHPP-14 of the Perm branch of PJSC T Plus

1 August 2023

The station design was approved in 1959, work on the site began in 1961.

On January 12, 1966, the first power unit of the station with a capacity of 60 MW was launched. By 1967, the station reached its full capacity of 160 MW.

Today, Perm CHPP-14 is the second station in terms of electrical power of the Perm branch of T Plus PJSC.

CHPP-14 fully provides energy supply to industrial enterprises and residents of the Kirovsky district of Perm.

At CHPP-14 there are 5 boiler feed pumps manufactured by the Sumy Machine-Building Plant, type PE-500-180 with a nominal capacity of 500 t/h and one pump type PE-250-180 with a nominal capacity of 250 t/h. Feeding pump PEN st. No. 15, designed to power steam boilers. Average daily water consumption is 570-700 t/h. Pump type PE-250-180 with a nominal capacity of 250 t/h is necessary for smoother regulation of feedwater flow to boiler units and reduction of own electricity needs. The pump will be integrated into the common supply line, in parallel with pumps of the PE-500-180 brand. Feed water parameters: pressure at the pump inlet – 10 kgf/cm2, pressure at the pump outlet – 180 kgf/cm2, temperature +170 ℃.

Perm CHPP-14

EnergoFront was tasked with task to replace the PE-500-180 pump with PE-250-180, which will inevitably lead to an increase in the energy efficiency of the equipment as a whole.

To implement the event, the following design solutions have been developed:

  • replacing the existing pump by installing a new pump on the existing frame;

  • replacing the pump piping in a volume sufficient to connect existing pipelines to the nozzles of the new pump;

  • replacement of oil system equipment in the following scope: main oil pump, starting oil pump, oil lines;

  • replacing the existing gear coupling with a plate coupling (supplied with the pump;

  • the existing line for supplying and draining oil to the gear coupling is dismantled;

  • development of a protective casing;

  • installing a filter on the pump suction, in accordance with the requirements of the manufacturer of the new pump;

  • installation of a heating line for the pump - if necessary, in accordance with the requirements of the manufacturer of the new pump;

  • inspection of the oil tank, oil cooler, oil filter;

  • inspection of the suction pipeline and shut-off valves at the suction (as a measure to prevent cavitation);

  • inspection of shut-off valves and check valve on the pressure pipeline;

  • revision of the reducing device on the recirculation line;

The result of the completed design work was the possibility of integrating a new boiler feed pump, which had not previously been installed at power plants in Russia. The PE 500 pump was replaced with the NTsSP-250-1900-12060-UHL4 pump, which made it possible to solve the problem of boiler feed pumps produced by Sumy Plant Nasosenergomash JSC leaving the Russian market.

Also, installing a pump with reduced power will allow you to get a significant economic effect from implementation in the summer. Installing the pump will save up to 2 MW/h of electrical energy spent on the station’s own needs.

Installing a new pump will reduce the cost of repairing old equipment and downtime due to failures of a worn-out pumping unit.

If necessary, the old pump, after modernization and replacement of the internal casing (cartridge), can be used in a new location to increase the design capacity of the units in winter and provide redundancy. Such an implementation project is already being carried out by a team of EnergoFront specialists at the Barnaul CHPP.
