Project: Replacement of four circulation pump units at Barnaul CHPP-3
Customer: JSC SGK-Altai (Siberian Generating Company group)
Object: Barnaul CHPP-3
Introduction
Barnaul CHPP-3 is a large energy enterprise in Barnaul (Altai Territory), a combined heat and power plant that generates electrical and thermal energy. Part of JSC SGK-Altai (Siberian Generating Company group).
Circulating water system:
- Type: reverse
- Cooling devices: three cooling towers with an irrigation area of 2600 m² each
- Source of replenishment of losses: Ob River
Circulation pump station (CNS):
- Commissioned in 1981
- Four vertical diagonal pumps of type 130DPV-8/23KEG-UZ with a nominal power of 2,500 kW were installed
- Estimated average annual operating time per pump: 3,451 hours
Project goals and objectives
Main task was the replacement of four circulation pumps 130DPV-8/23KEG-UZ, which had exhausted their assigned life, with the achievement of the following goals:
- 1. Reducing electricity costs for own needs - by switching to pumps of lower capacity (1.8 MW instead of 2.5 MW) with optimization of operating modes.
- 2. Increasing the reliability of auxiliary equipment - replacing worn-out units with modern analogues with improved technical characteristics.
- 3. Minimization of construction and installation work - installation of new pumps on existing foundations with connection to existing pipelines without reconstruction of the central nervous system building and the technological part of the technical water supply system.
EnergoFront solution
Using accumulated experience in the design and implementation of projects to replace pumping equipment, EnergoFront offered the most effective and cost-effective solution.
Suggested equipment:
- Vertical semi-submersible pump type 66MX-1/1 manufactured by the Ruhrpumpen concern
- Technical parameters: feed 21,000 m³/hour, pressure 24 m
- Electric motor power 1.8 MW (instead of 2.5 MW for replacement pumps)
Why this solution was chosen:
- Reducing the installed power from 2.5 MW to 1.8 MW allows you to significantly reduce electricity consumption for your own needs.
- The pumps are designed to fit existing foundations and connecting dimensions, which eliminates the reconstruction of the central nervous system building and the re-welding of pipelines.
- The vertical semi-submersible design is ideal for circulatory pump station applications where space is limited.

Scope of work performed (full cycle: design → delivery → installation supervision → commissioning supervision)
As part of the project, EnergoFront specialists completed a full range of works:
| Stage | Contents of work |
| 1. Pre-design survey | A detailed audit of existing equipment, foundations, piping and operating conditions was carried out. The necessary measurements and analysis of technical documentation were carried out. |
| 2. Design | Design documentation has been developed taking into account the required integration of new equipment into the existing infrastructure. The cramped working conditions were taken into account (limited space for maneuvering equipment, work in an existing central nervous system building). An increasing factor has been applied for work in cramped conditions. |
| 3. Equipment supply | Four modern vertical semi-submersible pumping units 66MX-1/1, fully equipped with electric motors, were manufactured and delivered to the station. |
| 4. Supervised installation | Services were provided to guide the installation of equipment (installation supervision) - engineering support for the installation of pumps, ensuring correct assembly and connection with existing communications. |
| 5. Supervision | Supervision services were provided - supervision of commissioning work, checking operating parameters, setting equipment operating modes. |
Results
- 1. Operational result:
- Four pumping units were delivered to the station in full in 2025.
- As of the current date, 2 pumping units have been installed and launched.
- Work is underway to install the third pumping unit.
- Installation and commissioning of the fourth pumping unit is planned for 2026.
- 2. Technical result:
- Replaced worn-out equipment with modern pumps from a global manufacturer (Ruhrpumpen).
- Full compatibility with existing foundations and pipelines is ensured without reconstruction of the central nervous system building.
- The operating modes of the circulation system have been optimized by selecting pumps for the real needs of the station.
- 3. Economic result:
- Reducing the installed capacity from 2.5 MW to 1.8 MW will significantly reduce the cost of electricity for own needs.
- The costs of reconstruction of the building and re-welding of pipelines are eliminated due to the preservation of seats.

Current project status
Pumping units were delivered to the station in 2025. Some of the equipment has already been installed and put into operation:
- 2 pumping units - installed and put into operation
- 3rd pump unit - installation work is underway
- 4th pump unit - installation and commissioning planned for 2026
Conclusion
The implementation of the project confirmed the status of EnergoFront as an engineering company capable of performing a full cycle of work - from pre-project inspection and design to delivery, installation supervision and commissioning supervision. An integrated approach allowed the Customer not only to update equipment, but also to save electricity for its own needs, which is a strategic result for the energy system of the Altai Territory.
